Participants of every skill level – including beginners – will be taught how to plan and create abstract artworks. Part of the schedule will be spent outside, working on structured activities in the open. These initial charcoal drawings and paintings will then be expanded upon in the workspace, with guests creating several abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be shown in the local community. The group has sole use of the hotel, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the hills. This Mediterranean foodie getaway, based at a riverside villa in the central Portuguese region, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. The schedule includes visits to the local market and a nearby winery to taste local vintages, combined with leisure time for walks by the nearby river, to relax on the terrace or take a dip in the pool. This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Participants will be taught historic sailing songs from a experienced musician, and have a go at writing their own. There will be voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is held in a rural hotel overlooking St Ives Bay. Full board are included, including a traditional tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not included. Writer and tutor Greg Mosse runs the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He explores topics including story structure, character development, locations and suspense, to sending manuscripts to publishers.
