Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The song showcases a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
