'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teens Await Information After Ski Resort Fire

The families of teenagers missing after a deadly blaze at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are enduring an agonising wait for answers and appealing for any details about their children publicly.

The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified images depict the ceiling igniting as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed four dozen individuals and injured another 119. Authorities noted on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work continuing to name the final individuals.

In the meantime, loved ones have been using the internet to request information about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.

Appeals for the Missing

The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.

The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.

"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she told the paper.

She continued that some of his peers had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."

The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that six of its young people are still unaccounted for.

Teenage sportsman Emanuele Galeppini, sixteen, was last in contact around the turn of the new year on New Year's Eve, his father said.

One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now living in the UAE.

The national sporting body has said that he is deceased, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.

Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
