Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are urging that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was set to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
