Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break following the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
