Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important representative stated the incident left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
