‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Legal Proceedings Unfold

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan added. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the tribute noted. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
